Bhutan to start participating in UN Peacekeeping Missions
As a long standing and responsible member of the United Nations, the Royal Government of Bhutan attaches high importance to the principles and purposes enshrined in the UN Charter. Bhutan has always worked constructively with other member states to realize the noble objectives of the UN since its membership in 1971. Among others, Bhutan remains fully committed to the maintenance of international peace and security, which is one of the key mandate and objectives of the UN. On 15th September 2014, Mr. Karma Tsering Namgyal, Consul General of Bhutan called on Shri Janaki Ballav Patnaik, Governor of Assam at Raj Bhavan and Shri Tarun Gogoi, Chief Minister of Assam at his residence.
Mr. Karma Tsering Namgyal conveyed the warm greetings of His Majesty the King and the Prime Minister to the Hon’ble Governor and Chief Minister and through them to the people of Assam. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to inform the general public that the French Embassy in New Delhi has notified the Ministry about change in consular jurisdiction. Hereafter, the French Consulate in Kolkata will handle all the consular matters pertaining to Bhutan including processing of French visas. Therefore, the Ministry would like to request all the Bhutanese citizens holding ordinary passports to process the French visa through the French Consulate in Kolkata.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) Resident Representative to Bhutan Mr. Tshewang Norbu presented his credentials to the Hon’ble Minister for Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo Rinzin Dorje, at a ceremony conducted at the Gyalyong Tshokhang on 28 August 2014.
Mr. Norbu holds a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from Sherubtse College and a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University, New York, USA. Prior to his appointment as ADB Resident Representative, he worked for the Department of Public Accounts, Ministry of Finance, Royal Government of Bhutan.
Mr. Norbu is a Bhutanese national and is the first ADB Resident Representative in Bhutan. The ADB Resident Mission Office in Bhutan was inaugurated in February this year.
The Ministry would like to inform that GoI has now started accepting applications for those courses scheduled from November and December 2014 under ITEC Program.
Therefore, the interested applicants are invited to apply for the same. The applications may be directly submitted to the Desk Officer, Asia & the Pacific Division, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thimphu routed through the respective agencies.
The 9th Annual Japan-Bhutan Consultation was held in Delhi on 15th August 2014. Director General Kinga Singye, Bilateral Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs led a 9-member delegation comprising of representatives from Foreign Ministry, GNHC, MoAF and MoWHS. Read more
The Consul General of Bhutan in Kolkata, H.E. Mr.Karma Tsering Namgyal called on H.E. Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, Governor of West Bengal at the Raj Bhavan, Kolkata on 20th August 2014. Mr. Karma Tsering Namgyal is the second Consul General of Bhutan. The Royal Bhutan Consulate, Kolkata was established in 2009 with consular jurisdiction over the Indian States of West Bengal and Assam.
At the invitation of the Royal Government of Bhutan, His Excellency Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Minister of Al-Diwan Al-Amiri of the State of Kuwait is on a visit to Bhutan from 14-18 August 2014. His Excellency Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah was received at Paro International Airport by HRH Dasho Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck and senior officials of the Royal Government this morning. While in Bhutan, His Excellency Sheikh Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah will be granted audience by His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo.
