GA pmLyonpoDamcho Dorji, Minister of Home and Cultural Affairs and Leader of Bhutanese Delegation delivered Bhutan’s Statement at the General Debate of the 69th Session of United Nations General Assembly on the morning of 30th September.

In his statement,Lyonposhared Bhutan’s developmental experiences and highlighted the importance of good governance, eradicating poverty and conservation of environment, among others, in the post-2015 development agenda.

On the sidelines of the General Debate, Lyonpo also participated in the 13th Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCS)held on 25th September at the United Nations. The Annual Ministerial Meeting of the Group of LLDCS was held on the theme: Forging Partnership for Enhanced Trade Competiveness and Capacity Building of LLDCs in 2015 and beyond”. In his statement at the meeting, Lyonpo highlighted the importance of enhancing trade competiveness, development of infrastructure and strong partnerships for LLDCS as they prepare for the Second United Nations Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries to be held in Vienna, Austria from 3 – 5 November 2014.

On the margins of the General Debate, Lyonpo also heldbilaterals with the delegations of US, Spain, Turkey and New Zealand during which discussions on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest and cooperation were held.

The General Debate of the 69th United Nations General Assembly began on 24th September and concluded on 30th September. The General Debate had its theme: Delivering on and implementing a Transformative Post-2015 Development Agenda”.
