IMG_395411180006 (1) Ambassador Pema Choden presented her Letters of Credence to His Majesty Philippe, King of the Belgians at the Royal Palace in Brussels on 26th May 2016 accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Kingdom of Belgium.

After the presentation ceremony, Ambassador Pema Choden was granted an audience by His Majesty King Philippe.  His Majesty congratulated Ambassador Pema Choden on her appointment and wished her success in further strengthening friendship and cooperation between the two Kingdoms. Ambassador Pema Choden conveyed the warm greetings of His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen to Their Majesties the King and Queen of Belgium.  She also conveyed the desire of the Royal Government to further strengthen friendship and cooperation with the Kingdom of Belgium in areas such as trade and investment, education and sustainable development.

Ambassador Pema Choden is the third Bhutanese ambassador to be appointed since a resident embassy was established in Brussels in 2009. Diplomatic relations between Bhutan and Belgium were established in January 2009.
