group presidentAmbassador Tshewang Chophel Dorji presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar H.E. U Htin Kyaw at a ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw on November 18, 2016 accrediting him as Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Following the ceremony and calling on the President, Ambassador Tshewang C. Dorji conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes of His Majesty the King and the Prime Minister to the President. The President congratulated the Ambassador on his appointment and expressed his hope that the existing relations between the two countries will be further enhanced during the Ambassador’s tenure. The Ambassador in return expressed his commitment to actively strengthen the relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Tshewang C. Dorji also called on the State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and other senior government officials. The Ambassador thanked the Government of Myanmar for its support in the area of health services by having deputed their doctors to Bhutan. Both sides also discussed opportunities to expand cooperation in areas such as agriculture, tourism, health, energy and culture.

Bhutan and Myanmar established formal diplomatic relations on 1st February 2012. Ambassador Tshewang C. Dorji is the second Ambassador to be accredited to Myanmar.
