Notification

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would like to notify the general public that the Australian Government has introduced reforms to Australia’s employer sponsored visa programmes.

The changes relate to the temporary employer sponsored skilled visa programme (Subclass 457), and the permanent employer sponsored skilled migration programmes (Subclasses 186 and 187).

The changes come into effect in stages between 19 April 2017 to March 2018, when the new Temporary Skilled Shortage (TSS) visa will commence. The new TSS visa will replace the 457 visa as the primary visa used to meet Australia’s trade commitments on the entry of temporary skilled workers under the WTO’s General Agreement on Trade in Services and Free Trade Agreements.
