His Excellency Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan will make a three-day Official visit to Bhutan from 22nd to 24th June 2018. This will be the first visit to Bhutan by a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. The visit is an outcome of the recent visit to Japan by Lyonchen (Dasho) Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan from 10th to 13th April 2018 and a reflection of the growing ties of friendship and cooperation with Japan.

The Japanese Foreign Minister will be accompanied by Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and Embassy of Japan in New Delhi. During the visit, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono will call on Hon’ble Lyonchen Tshering Tobgay and hold meeting with Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Minister for Foreign Affairs.

During the Foreign Minister’s visit, Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan and Major General V. Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Japan will sign the Exchange of Notes for Grant Aid “Project for Human Resource Development scholarship” in the presence of the two Foreign Ministers.

Japan is a longstanding development partner of Bhutan. Bhutan and Japan enjoy very close ties of friendship, cooperation and understanding. The visit to Bhutan by Japanese Foreign Minister will further strengthen the relations between the governments and the peoples of the two countries.
