The celebration of the 111th National Day in Royal Bhutanese Embassy began with the hoisting of the National flag at the Embassy in the morning.

Ambassador on behalf of the Royal Government conferred the civil service medals to five local staff of the Embassy for their dedicated service to Tsa Wa Sum for more than 10 years.

Lucky draw was also held for the officers and local staff.

Later In the evening the Embassy hosted a grand reception at Anantara Siam Bangkok Hotel. The grand reception was well attended by Thai government officials, diplomatic corps, friends of Bhutan in Thailand and the Bhutanese community.

The Ambassador in his welcome remarks said that 17th December, which is the National Day, bears great significance for the nation. It is an occasion for the Bhutanese people to pay tribute to the enlightened and selfless leadership of the Wangchuck Dynasty – the sacred institution of hereditary monarchy, which was established on this day in 1907.

Speaking of the warm and friendly relations between Bhutan and Thailand, the Ambassador said that the two Kingdoms are bound by common values and culture emanating from the precious and timeless teachings of Lord Buddha, and the mutual love and reverence to the institution of Monarchy and the selfless leadership of the Monarchs. He expressed satisfaction that the relations are vibrant and that it would continue to grow even stronger in the years to come.

He also said that Bhutan and Thailand will be commemorating 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2019.

Bhutanese and Thai students presented a variety of cultural performances at the reception.
