Donations from the people of Japan for Wangduephodrang Dzong reconstruction.

Ms. Hitomi Tokuda, Honorary Consul General of Bhutan in Tokyo, Japan called on Dasho Yeshey Dorji, Foreign Secretary to convey the sympathy of the Japanese people for the loss of Wangduephodrang Dzong to fire. She also handed over a list of names of people who have made donations for the reconstruction of the Dzong amounting to US$134,590.13, which has already been directly remitted to the Wangdue Phodrang Reconstruction Fund Account maintained by the Ministry of Finance.

The donations were mobilized by Ms. Tokuda from 1090 Japanese people including officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Honorary Consul of Bhutan in Osaka, Representative Director, Toyo System Co., Ltd of Fukushima, Representative Director, Aquas Corporation, The Japan-Kingdom of Bhutan Parliamentary Friendship League and from the Office of the Honorary Consulate-General of Bhutan in Tokyo. It also includes donations from Sakuragaoka Elementary School, which Their Majesties visited on the occasion of their State Visit in November 2011.

Dasho Yeshey Dorji, on behalf of the Royal Government of Bhutan expressed deep appreciation to Ms. Tokuda and all the individuals in Japan for their generous donations.
