Functions
- Receive and facilitate the visits of state guests
- Coordinate visits by guests from foreign missions, bilateral agencies, and UN and its specialized agencies
- Provide consular services to Bhutanese nationals visiting other countries and foreign nationals visiting Bhutan.
The Department of Protocol has five sections
- Protocol I (Programme and Ceremonies)

- Protocol III. (Embassies and International Organizations)
- Protocol IV (Visa)
- Protocol V (Passport)
