FOREIGN MINISTER LAUNCHES PUBLICATION “BHUTAN AT THE UNITED NATIONS”, MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS, THIMPHU, 15TH MARCH 2016
At the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hon’ble Foreign Minister launched “Bhutan at the United Nations”, a compilation by Lyonpo Dago Tshering of statements delivered by Bhutan’s delegations at the United Nations since 1971. The work, contained in two volumes, spans over four decades of Bhutan’s engagements at the United Nations from 1971 to 2014.
The Compendium is a tribute to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuk, the architect of Bhutan’s foreign policy and visionary for much of Bhutan’s interactions with the international community.
The Foreign Minister thanked Lyonpo Dago Tshering for producing the anthology and stated that this is the first time Bhutan’s statements at the UN are made available in a single comprehensive publication, and made easily accessible to all. Read more
Signing Ceremony of Exchange of Notes under the Japanese Grant Aid and Grant Contracts under the Grant Assistant for Grassroots Projects (GGP)
On 15 March 2016 in New Delhi, Ambassador V. Namgyel of Bhutan to Japan and Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu of Japan to Bhutan signed the Exchange of Notes under the Japanese Grant Aid “The Project for Improvement of Machinery and Equipment for Construction of Rural Agriculture Road (Phase Ill)” with assistance amounting to 966 million Yen. Ambassador Kinga Singye, Permanent Representative of Bhutan, presented his credentials to the Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Mr. Michael Møller, on the evening of 3rd March 2016 at Palais des Nations, United Nations Office in Geneva.
Ambassador Kinga Singye will also be concurrently accredited as Permanent Representative of Bhutan to UNEP in Kenya; FAO, WFP and IFAD in Rome; UNESCO in Paris; UNIDO in Vienna; and as Ambassador of Bhutan to Austria, Norway and Switzerland. Read more
H.E. Lyonpo Damcho Dorji met with H.E. Mr. Gnchig Ganbold, Ambassador of Mongolia, H.E. Mr. Aung Khin Soe, Ambassador of Myanmar, H.E. Mr. Nils Ragnar Kamsvag, Ambassador of Norway, H.E. Mr. Ahn Seong-doo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea on 29th February 2016. On 1st March the Foreign Minister met with H.E. Mr. Vladimir Maric, Ambassador of Serbia, and H.E. Mr. Jožef Drofenik, Ambassador of Slovenia. The new Ambassadors presented credentials to His Majesty the King on 29th February 2016.
Dasho Tshering Dorji, Foreign Secretary presented the Mid Term Review of the Ministry’s 11th Five Year Plan on 1st March 2016 from 9:00 – 11:30 am at the Royal Banquet Hall. The review presentation was chaired by Hon’ble Prime Minister in presence of Hon’ble Foreign Minister and Secretary, GNHC. The presentation was also attended by former Ambassadors, Heads of Department, Division Chiefs and officers from the Ministry.
A Chinese Acrobatic Show was performed by Gansu Acrobatic Troupe on 24th February 2016 in Thimphu. The Troupe led by Ms. Zhu Yulan, Chairperson of Gansu Acrobatic Troupe, visited Bhutan from 23rd to 25th February 2016.Read More
