Promotion Notification

The AFD would like to notify all the Missions, Embassies and Consulate abroad and the Departments and Divisions of this Ministry to submit Promotion Proposals for July 2014 to the HR Section on or before 30th April 2014.

The officials concerned shall be fully responsible to process their Security Clearance, Audit Clearance and Performance Evaluation Forms in consultation with the HR Section.

Further, the AFD shall not accept incomplete or late promotion proposals.

The promotion proposal must be submitted strictly in line with the Promotion Rules and Regulations, BCSR-2012.

inter-summit-photo1The 35th Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers was held on February 20, 2014, in the Bandos Island of the Republic of Maldives. The Council Meeting was chaired by H.E. Ms. Dunya Maumoom Foreign Minister of Maldives. The meeting was attended by the Foreign Minister’s from the all the SAARC States. The 35th Session of the Council of Ministers was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Abdullah Yamen Abdul Gayoom, President of the Republic of Maldives. The Bhutanese delegation to the meeting was led by H.E. Mr. Rinzin Dorji, Foreign Minister. The highlight of the 35th Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers were mainly consideration and approval of the Study to strengthen SAARC Mechanisms, including the Secretariat, Regional Centres and SAARC Specialised Bodies. The meeting also endorsed the appointment of H.E. Mr. Arjun Bahadur Thapa from Nepal as the next Secretary General of SAARC. The Government of Nepal has also announced that the 18th SAARC Summit will be held in Nepal in November 2014.

On the sidelines of the SAARC Council of Ministers, Foreign Ministers had bilateral discussion with India, Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Foreign Minister to lead Bhutanese delegation to 35th Session of the SAARC Council of Ministers in Male, Maldives from 17-20  February  2014

The 35th Session of Council of Ministers will take place in Male, Maldives from 17-20th February  2014. Maldives is the current Chair of SAARC and the last Council of Ministers Meeting was  held  in  Addu  City,  Maldives in  2011.  The  Council  of Ministers Meeting will  be preceded  by the 40th Session of  Standing  Committee and  the   45th Session  of  Programming Committee, which   will   begin  from   17 February  2014.

A Chinese Cultural Troupe from the People’s Republic of China is visiting Bhutan from 14-18 February 2014 to perform at Thimphu on 15 and 16 February 2014. The Troupe is being led by Mr. Dong Jungxin, Vice President, China International Culture Association and officials of the Bureau for External Cultural Relations, Ministry of Culture of China, Department of Culture of Guangxi province and the Embassy of China, India. This is the second time that a Chinese cultural troupe will be performing in Thimphu, with the last one held in 2005.

The cultural performance is being held to celebrate the Bhutanese and Chinese New Years and to enhance people-to-people contact and friendship between the two countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce that Mrs. Kunzang C. Namgyel has recently been appointed as Bhutan’s Ambassador / Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York.

She is the first woman Foreign Service Officer to be elevated to the position of an Ambassador and the appointment was graciously approved by Royal Kasho on 3 January 2014.Read More

At the invitation of the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen paid an Official Visit to India from 6 to 10 January, 2014. Their Majesties were accompanied by the Minister of Home Affairs, Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo Rinzin Dorji, Minister of Economic Affairs, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk and senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan.
