The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is pleased to announce that Mrs. Kunzang C. Namgyel has recently been appointed as Bhutan’s Ambassador / Permanent Representative to the United Nations, New York.
She is the first woman Foreign Service Officer to be elevated to the position of an Ambassador and the appointment was graciously approved by Royal Kasho on 3 January 2014.Read More
At the invitation of the President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen paid an Official Visit to India from 6 to 10 January, 2014. Their Majesties were accompanied by the Minister of Home Affairs, Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lyonpo Rinzin Dorji, Minister of Economic Affairs, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk and senior officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan.
At the invitation of the President of India, Dr. Pranab Mukherjee, His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Gyaltsuen will be on an official visit to India from 6-10 January 2014. His Majesty will be accompanied by Lyonpo Damchoe Dorji, Minister for Home & Cultural Affairs, Lyonpo Rinzin Dorje, Foreign Minister, Lyonpo Norbu Wangchuk, Minister for Economic Affairs and other senior officials of the Royal Government. During the visit, His Majesty is scheduled to meet the President, Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid, National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon, and other senior officials of the Government of India.
Marking the fiftieth anniversaryof the first Ministerial Conference on Asian Economic Cooperation, a ministerial level Asian Pacific Conference on Regional Economic Cooperation and Integration was held in Bangkok from 17-20 December, 2013. The Ministerial Conference adopted the Bangkok Declaration. The declaration called for cooperation in four thematic areas of integrated markets, connectivity, regional financial cooperation and cooperation to address shared vulnerabilities and risks. The four areas will be further studied with the formation of the four area-specific expert working groups and its findings and recommendations submitted for the consideration of the second Ministerial Conference to be convened in 2015.

The Royal Bhutanese Embassy organized the celebration of the 106th National Day at the Chancery in the morning of 17th December 2013. The Bhutanese community comprising students from various local universities, Bhutanese families in Thailand and Embassy officials led by Kutshab participated in the celebration. The celebration commenced in the morning with the hoisting of the national flag and singing of the national anthem. The Embassy had arranged for the viewing of the live BBS telecast of the event at Changlimithang Ground. The Bhutanese community was very happy with the opportunity to hear His Majesty address the nation. There were cultural performances by students and a special dance troupe brought from Bhutan performed for the occasion followed by lunch.
PERMANENT MISSION OF BHUTAN TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK CELEBRATES NATIONAL DAY IN NEW YORK
Representatives of the Permanent Missions, including Ambassadors and senior diplomats, senior officials from the UN Secretariat, friends of Bhutan in the US, and Bhutanese nationals living in New York came to celebrate the special occasion.
Regarded as one of the more popular receptions because of the great food and drinks and friendly ambience, and despite the inclement weather, the reception was well attended.
RBE Brussels Hosts First get together of the European Friends of Bhutan.
The first ever get together in Europe of the Honorary Consuls, Friendship Associations, Partners and other friends of Bhutan in the European Union countries was hosted by the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Brussels as a part of its commemorative events to observe Bhutan’s National Day on 17 December 2013.
Present at the working lunch conference were the Bhutanese Honorary Consul in the Netherlands and Germany, along with representatives of the Friendship Associations from Denmark, Netherlands, France, UK, Sweden and Hungary as well as Bhutanese residents and students.
The Royal Government of Bhutan, represented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation renewed the joint general agreement concerning development cooperation in Bhutan. The agreement has been renewed for a period of 5 years from 2013 till 2018. It reinforces the commitment of HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation to assist the government, civil society and private sector partners specifically in the fields of rural development including education, skills development and employment, and local governance.Read More
The Ambassador of India to Bhutan, Mr. V.P. Haran, today handed over a cheque amounting to Rs. 1.5 billion to the Finance Minister, Lyonpo Namgay Dorji, for the Economic Stimulus Plan (ESP), in the presence of Hon’ble Prime Minister, Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay. The Government of India has committed Rs. 5 billion for the ESP and the first release of Rs. 1 billion was made on 29th October 2013.
