The 22nd Round of Boundary Talks between the Royal Government of Bhutan and the
Government of the People’s Republic of China will be held in China from 24-25 July
2014. The 7-member Bhutanese delegation, led by Foreign Minister Lyonpo Rinzin Dorji
will leave for China on 22nd July 2014. The Bhutanese delegation includes Foreign
Secretary Yeshey Dorji, Ambassador of Bhutan to India Maj. Gen. Vetsop Namgyel,
International Boundaries Secretary Dasho Pema Wangchhuk and senior officials from
the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Boundaries.

The 21st Round of Boundary Talks was held in Thimphu on August 22,2013. During the
intervening period, the two sides conducted the Joint Technical Field Survey of Bayul
Pasamlung area in September 2013 and an expert Group Meeting was held in Beijing in

crown-prince-hpmLyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, who is on a working visit to Japan at the invitation of the Government of Japan, received an audience with His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince Naruhito. During the audience, Lyonchhen conveyed the warm greetings of Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan and submitted a letter from His Majesty the King to His Majesty the Emperor.

Lyonchhen met with Mr. Akira Amari, Minister for Economic Revitalization, Mr. Yoshimasa Hayashi, Minister for Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and Mr. Seiji Kihara, ParliamentaryVice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and discussed various areas of cooperation. Lyonchhen also met with the President of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO and Executives of various companies to explore trade and investment opportunities between the two countries. Earlier today, Lyonchhen visited the Nissan Showroom to look at various electric vehicles manufactured by the Company.A lunch was hosted by the Friendship Exchange Council. In the evening, the Japan-Bhutan Friendship Association hosted dinner in honour of Lyonchen and the delegation.

Lyonchhen will visit Soma City in Fukushima tomorrow. In the evening, he will meet with Bhutan’s Honorary Consuls, members of the Japan Society for GNH Studies and other friends over dinner in Tokyo.Lyonchhen will leave Tokyo on 3rd July and arrive in Bhutan on the 4th.

japanLyonchhenTsheringTobgay is on a working visit to Japan at the invitation of the Government of Japan. Today he had a meeting with H.E. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and held wide ranging discussions on bilateral relations, on regional and international issues of mutual interest and concern.

Lyonchhen thanked Prime Minister Abe for the support Japan has been rendering to Bhutan’s socio-economic development over the past decades. He requested for Japan’s continued support to agriculture, including farm mechanization, and for infrastructure development. Lyonchhen also requested for Japan’s support to set up the infrastructure for electric vehicles, including charging stations.

1. At the invitation of His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, the King of Bhutan, Prime Minister of the Republic of India Shri Narendra Modi paid a State Visit to Bhutan from 15-16 June 2014. The Prime Minister of India was accompanied by External Affairs Minister Smt. Sushma Swaraj, National Security Adviser Shri Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Smt. Sujatha Singh and other senior officials of the Government of India.

2. The visit to Bhutan by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is highly significant as it is his first visit abroad after he was sworn-in as the Prime Minister of India on 26 May 2014 in New Delhi. The visit reinforces the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and upholds and strengthens the special and unique age-old friendship between Bhutan and India.
