The Kingdom of Bhutan and Brunei Darussalam established diplomatic relations on 13 July<\/span>
\n2026 through the signing of a Joint Communiqu\u00e9 by Ambassador Tenzin R. Wangchuk,<\/span>
\nPermanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations, and Ambassador<\/span>
\nPengiran Hairani Pengiran Haji Tajuddin, Permanent Representative of Brunei Darussalam to<\/span>
\nthe United Nations, on behalf of their respective Governments.<\/span><\/p>\n

During the signing ceremony, the two Permanent Representatives reaffirmed the<\/span>
\nlongstanding friendship, mutual respect, and shared aspirations between the Kingdom of<\/span>
\nBhutan and Brunei Darussalam. They underscored the enduring goodwill between the two<\/span>
\ncountries, rooted in common values, including their deep respect for the institution of the<\/span>
\nMonarchy.<\/span><\/p>\n

The two sides expressed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations through<\/span>
\nenhanced cooperation in areas of mutual interest and to fostering closer ties between the<\/span>
\npeoples of the two countries. They also reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting<\/span>
\ninternational peace and security, sustainable development, and effective multilateral<\/span>
\ncooperation, guided by the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the establishment of diplomatic relations with Brunei Darussalam, the Kingdom of<\/span>
\nBhutan now maintains diplomatic relations with 61 countries and the European Union.<\/span><\/p>\n
