{"id":16,"date":"2021-03-25T03:32:09","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T03:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.bt\/rbcguwahati\/?page_id=16"},"modified":"2023-05-11T16:35:08","modified_gmt":"2023-05-11T16:35:08","slug":"background","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.mfa.gov.bt\/rbcguwahati\/background\/","title":{"rendered":"Background"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Royal Bhutanese Consulate General in Guwahati was established on 2 February 2018 to officially represent the Royal Government of Bhutan; to add impetus to the age-old ties between Bhutan and Northeast India; to facilitate trade and commerce between the two regions; and to provide consular services to the Bhutanese nationals living, working and studying in the Northeastern states of India.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Royal Bhutanese Consulate General in Guwahati was inaugurated by H.E Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Foreign Minister of Bhutan and H.E Shri Sarbananda Sonawal, Chief Minister of Assam, India, in presence of H.E Dasho Tshering Tobgay, the Hon\u2019ble Prime Minister of Bhutan. The inauguration of the Consulate was the first of many events planned for the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the formal establishment of diplomatic relations between Bhutan and India (1968 &#8211; 2018).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Currently, the office of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General and residences of Hon\u2019ble Consul General and members of the consular staff are on rented properties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">H.E Mr. Phub Tshering, former Bumthang Dzongda was appointed as the first Consul General of Bhutan in Guwahati. He joined the Consulate on 1 June 2018.\u00a0 Mr. Sherub Phuntsho served as the Acting Consul General until the assumption of office by H.E Mr. Phub Tshering.
