Procedure for application\/renewal of passport <\/span>for<\/span> applicants based in Australia and New Zealand:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

All passport applications are processed online. Applicants are not required to appear in person at the Embassy for the submission of applications.<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Please email the following documents to rbecanberra@mfa.gov.bt<\/strong><\/span>.:<\/span><\/span><\/span> <\/span>\n

    1. For applicants above the age of 15 years:<\/strong><\/span>\n
        \n
      1. \n
          \n
        1. Duly filled Passport Application Form for Bhutanese Living in Australia and New Zealand<\/span><\/span><\/a>;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        2. Copy of Valid Citizenship Identity Card;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        3. Copy of a valid Online Security Clearance Certificate. You can apply\/track your security clearance at https:\/\/scs.rbp.gov.bt\/<\/a><\/span>;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
        4. Digital photo of the applicant with a CLEAR face (Forehead completely shown, no hair over eyebrows, ears not covered). DON’T scan or re-photograph a photo. It should be in national dress with an adequate edge towards the chest; and<\/span><\/li>\n
        5. Copy of the current\/expired passport.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
        6. In case of lost<\/strong> passport, the application must be accompanied by a police report along with the incident number. This should be from the nearest police station in Australia\/New Zealand where the passport was lost.<\/span><\/li>\n
        7. In case of damaged<\/strong> passport, the current passport must be submitted to the Embassy via post or in person for cancellation. \u00a0The application process will begin only upon the receipt of the original passport by the Embassy.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
        8. For applicants below the age of 15 years:<\/strong><\/span>\n

            1. Duly filled Passport Application Form for Bhutanese Living in Australia and New Zealand<\/span><\/span><\/a> signed by both parents\/legal guardian and the child’s preferred name written with free handwriting under the “Applicant’s Signature” box;<\/span><\/li>\n
            2. Copy of Valid Citizenship Identity Card of both parents;\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
            3. Digital photo of the applicant with a CLEAR face (Forehead completely shown, no hair over eyebrows, ears not covered). DON’T scan or re-photograph a photo. It should be in national dress (with the exception of applicants below 3 years<\/strong>) with an adequate edge towards the chest, and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
            4. Copy of the current\/expired passport, if applicable.<\/span><\/li>\n
            5. In case of lost<\/strong> passport, the application must be accompanied by a police report along with the incident number. This should be from the nearest police station in Australia\/New Zealand where the passport was lost.<\/span><\/li>\n

            7. In case of application of passport for a new born baby<\/strong>, he\/she must be first registered with the Ministry of Home Affairs in Bhutan and assigned a citizenship number. The process for birth registration is available at https:\/\/dcrc.moha.gov.bt\/index.php\/birth-registration1\/<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n
            8. Applicant’s current passport must be valid for 6 months or less<\/strong> to be issued a new passport (With the exception of lost and damaged cases). \u00a0However, you may start the renewal process once the validity is less than 7 months<\/strong> to gather the documents and account for processing time.<\/span><\/li>\n
            9. Documents must be submitted electronically to rbecanberra@mfa.gov.bt<\/strong><\/span>.<\/span> Passports will be issued within 21<\/strong> working days upon the submission of all required documents and payment of fees by the applicant.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
            10. Once documents are verified and the application is accepted for further processing,\u00a0 the contact number in Bhutan provided by the applicant in the application form will receive an SMS for payment. The applicant must inform the holder of the Bhutanese phone number beforehand to ensure timely payment.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n
            11. In the event document(s) do not meet the requirements, the application may be rejected with the reasons provided via SMS to the Bhutanese phone number provided in the form. \u00a0Applicants will need to accordingly submit revised document(s) to the Embassy using the same email thread and a new application will be lodged. Kindly note that the Embassy does not have access to the SMS sent to Bhutanese phone number and applicants are requested to check with their contact in Bhutan.<\/span><\/li>\n
            12. Details of fees are as follows:<\/span>\n
                \n
              • Nu. 1,000\/-<\/strong> for adults;<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Nu. 800\/-<\/strong> for minors;<\/span><\/li>\n
              • In case of lost or damaged<\/strong> passport, additional fine of Nu. 5,000<\/strong>\/- will apply. \u00a0 (Total cost: Nu. 6,000\/- <\/strong>for adults and Nu. 5,800\/- <\/strong>for minors)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
              • Once the passport is ready, the Embassy will notify the applicant via email. (Please ignore the autogenerated message received by the phone number in Bhutan notifying on the printing of passport and requesting collection from Passport Office.) <\/span><\/li>\n
              • Passport can be picked up from the Embassy or will be posted to a preferred address in Australia and New Zealand at the applicant\u2019s expenses.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • In view of the large volume of applications processed by the Embassy, applicants are advised to monitor the status of your application and follow-up with the Embassy should there be a significant delay in your application or if no acknowledgment is received within a few days. The Embassy will not be liable for delays caused due to non-payment of fees or\/and non-submission of the required document(s) and information by the applicant.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Most international destinations require passports to have at least six months\u2019 validity at the time of travel. Applicants are advised to check their passport validity and confirm the specific entry requirements of their destination country prior to making any travel arrangements.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Upon issuance of your new passport, applicants are advised to update their passport details in their individual ImmiAccount to ensure their visa status reflects their current passport.<\/span><\/li>\n
              • Kindly note that the Embassy is able to print and dispatch passports only for applications received and processed by the Embassy. Applications submitted directly through the G2C system or to the Passport Division in Thimphu will be printed in Thimphu, and applicants are required to collect their passports from the office in Thimphu.
