The Consul General (CG) accompanied by two other senior officials of the Royal Bhutanese Consulate General (RBCG) in Kolkata called on the Chief Secretary Shri Amir Subhani (IAS) of the Bihar State Government on 25 March 2022 at Raj Bhavan in Patna. Bihar is one of the three States newly accredited to the RBCG, Kolkata. The CG conveyed warm wishes and greetings of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government and the People of Bhutan and thanked the Bihar State Government for the kind hospitality and cordial welcome extended. The Chief Secretary expressed his particular appreciation on Bhutan’s development philosophy of Gross National Happiness under the able leadership of our beloved farsighted Kings while expressing their full support to the hundreds of Bhutanese pilgrims who visit Bodhgaya each year.
The Chief Secretary also thanked the Royal Government of Bhutan for the clean hydro power that Bhutan is supplying to Bihar. Areas of mutual interests were discussed like trade, tourism, student exchange programs and people to people cultural exchange programs to promote the already existing close ties between Bhutan and the State of Bihar. Shri Amir Subhani, the 1987 IAS topper was appointed as the 45th chief secretary of Bihar on 30 Dec 2021.
En route to Patna, the CG and team met with the Secretary of Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee at Bodhgaya. Amongst others, discussions were held on the way forward particularly for Bhutanese pilgrims coming to Bodhgaya and Rajgir post COVID-19. The team also visited the Bhutanese temple construction site at Rajgir and met the project officials. The CG commended on the progress of the ongoing works and assured full support and assistance that the Project may require of the RBCG in Kolkata.
