Ambassador

Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl was born on July 1, 1971 in Tsakaling village in Mongar, eastern Bhutan. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Policy and Practice from George Washington University, the United States, and a Bachelor’s Degree (Honours) in English Literature from Sherubtse College, Kanglung, Bhutan.

Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl started his career as a trainee officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996. He was then posted to the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi as a Third Secretary from 1998 to 2001 and later on as a Counsellor (Political Section) at the Permanent Mission of Bhutan to the UN in Geneva, Switzerland, from 2010 to 2013. At Headquarters, he also assumed several posts including as Chief of the Asia Division and as Deputy Chief at the Policy Planning Division. Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh, he served as Director for the Department of SAARC and Regional Organizations, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from 2018 to 2020. 

Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl presented his Letter of Credence as Ambassador of Bhutan to Bangladesh on August 12, 2020. He is the 13th Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. 

Ambassador Rinchen Kuentsyl is married to Kuenzang Lham Sangey, and they have a son and a daughter. His hobbies are reading and golf.
