MESSAGE FROM THE AMBASSADOR

2021 marks the 50th anniversary of Bhutan’s membership to the United Nations. The United Nations and International Organizations have been an integral part of Bhutan’s incredible journey of modernization. Bhutan today is on the cusp of graduating to a middle income country. With changing national imperatives, we strive to continuously redefine our role as a member of the United Nations in keeping with the spirit of the charter of the United Nations.

It is therefore a great privilege for me to serve as the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the United Nations and International Organizations in Geneva with concurrent accreditation to UN agencies in Vienna, Rome and Nairobi.

The Mission also concurrently functions as the Embassy of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Switzerland, Austria and Norway with whom we share close bilateral ties. My colleagues and I will strive to further expand the scope of our bilateral cooperation with these countries.

The welfare and interests of Bhutanese citizens living in Switzerland, Austria and Norway is a priority function of the Mission. With increasing mobility of our citizens, more Bhutanese are travelling abroad for work, business, leisure and studies, leading to increasing need for consular services from the Mission.

Through our website, we hope to reach out to everyone in need of information on Bhutan and also inform about the activities of the Mission. We hope that the website is useful and informative. Where it is lacking, me and my colleagues at the Mission will be happy to address them when it comes to our attention.

I wish you all happiness.

Tenzin Rondel Wangchuk
Ambassador, Permanent Representative
