Hon’ble Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, Minister for Health, is leading a RGoB delegation to the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA), being held in Geneva from 18 to 23 May 2026. The WHA is the highest decision making body of the World Health Organisation (WHO). It meets annually and determines the policies of the organisation, supervises financial policies and reviews and approves the proposed programme budget.
During the Assembly, Bhutan will assume the Chairmanship of the WHO Executive Board for a one-year term and will serve as a member of the Board for three years. In this capacity, Lyonpo will chair the 159th Session of the Executive Board from 25 to 26 May 2026. The Executive Board comprises 34 members elected for three-year terms. The main functions are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, provide guidance and advice, and facilitate the work of the Assembly.
