Establishment of the King’s Scholarship at King’s College London

The Royal Bhutanese Embassy, Brussels is pleased to announce the establishment of the King’s Scholarships of Bhutan at King’s College London, the United Kingdom.

The Scholarship was established through an exchange of Letters between H.E. Mr. Tshering Gyaltshen Penjor, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan in Brussels, on behalf of the Royal Civil Service Commission (RCSC) and Professor ‘Funmi Olonisakin, Vice President (International, Engagement & Service) King’s College London.

Under this partnership, the King’s Scholarship will be awarded to an undergraduate student from Bhutan, admitted to King’s College London for a BA in International Relations.

The prestigious King’s Scholarships is inspired by His Majesty’s vision to create a “well educated and forward looking society that is ready to meet and seize the opportunities of the 21st century”. The scholarship is aimed at identifying the talent pool for leadership in civil service from a young age and grooming them strategically. Besides the undergraduate studies, awardees will be provided with developmental and leadership programs so that they will be able to anticipate and seize opportunities for the long term interest of the country. It is implemented by the RCSC in collaboration with the Department of Adult and Higher Education (DAHE), Ministry of Education.

In signing the Letter of Intention, Professor ‘Funmi Olonisakin conveyed that King’s College London is “appreciative of this initiative which will support qualified students at the King’s College coming from Bhutan”.
