ceremony-at-boku-universityOn 2nd December 2014, the 25th anniversary of the collaboration between the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences (BOKU), Vienna and the Kingdom of Bhutan was celebrated in BOKU University in Vienna, Austria.

The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Daw Penjo, Ambassador of Bhutan to Austria; Ambassador Peter Launsky, Director General, Austrian Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs; Prof. Martin Gerzabek, Rector of BOKU; Dr. Franz Fischler, the former EU commissioner; and Mr Gerhard Mannsberger, Director General for Forestry, Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Water and Environment.

The collaboration between BOKU University and Bhutan has been mainly in research and education in sustainable use of forest resources. In the last 25 years, with the financial assistance of the Austrian Government 33 Bhutanese officials have studied mountain forestry in BOKU, including 11 of them who are currently undertaking their masters and PhD programs in the University. Moreover, numerous joint researches were conducted between BOKU University and forest research centres in Yusipang, Bumthang, and the watershed management division of the Ministry of Agriculture.
