Bhutan’s Ambassador to Canada, H.E. Mr. Lhatu Wangchuk presented his credentials to the Governor General of Canada H.E. the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean at the Rideau Hall (official residence) on 30 June 2009. Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk is Bhutan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York and holds concurrent accreditation to Canada. Prior to taking up his post as ambassador to the UN and Canada, Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk was the Director-General of Bilateral Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having also served as Ambassador to Bangladesh.

Bhutan and Canada established diplomatic relations in June 2003.

Following the presentation of his letter of credence, Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk made a call-on the Governor General and conveyed the good wishes of His Majesty the King, the Royal Government and the people of Bhutan. During the meeting important issues affecting both countries were discussed. The Ambassador also stated his objective in furthering the bilateral relations between the two countries. While in Canada Ambassador Lhatu Wangchuk also met with other senior government officials.
