The Ambassadors of Bhutan and Japan in New Delhi, H.E. Lyonpo Dago Tshering and H. E Mr. Hideaki Domichi, signed the Exchange of Notes’ for two projects at the Royal Bhutanese Embassy in New Delhi to be implemented under the Japanese assistance.

1. The project ‘Construction of Educational Facilities’ with a grant assistance of ¥ 1,064,000,000.00 would be utilized for the construction of 4 middle secondary schools, one each in Punakha and Wangdue and two in Chhukha. The project would contribute towards the Royal Government’s endeavour to build more schools in the country to address the growing demand for educational facilities.

2. The Project ‘Improvement of Equipment of Bhutan Broadcasting Service Corporation’ with grant assistance of ¥594,000,000.00 would be utilized to procure and upgrade facilities and equipment of BBS. The project would also assist BBS in setting up a Master Control System and establishing transmission system for its bureaus in other parts of the country using Bhutan Telecom link. The project is aimed at enabling immediate access to information by the Bhutanese people and encourage their participation in nation building.

Economic cooperation between the two countries dates back to the 4th Plan in the 70’s and the Government of Japan continues to be an important bilateral development partner of the Royal Government.
