Celebrations of the Sixtieth Birth Anniversary of

His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuk, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo

The Royal Bhutanese Embassy in Belgium celebrated the Sixtieth Birth Anniversary of His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the Fourth Druk Gyalpo on 7th November 2015 at its chancery in Brussels. The celebration was organized on a weekend to facilitate maximum participation by Bhutanese students and residents in Europe.

In what was the largest gathering of Bhutanese in Europe, over 70 Bhutanese from 13 countries in Europe, joined the officers and staff of the Embassy to celebrate the historic event.  The officers of the embassy and Bhutanese living in Europe offered Zhabten for DrukgyalZhipa’s long life and continued well-being.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sonam Tshong, Ambassador of Bhutan to Belgium and the European Commission highlighted the immense contributions of His Majesty DrukgyalZhipa. He said that the best tribute to DrukgyalZhipa was to continue to  serve His Majesty the King with full loyalty and dedication in in His Majesty’s sacred duty of protecting the legacy of DtukgyalZhipa and in guiding Bhutan in the 21st century.

A documentary on the life and work of DrukgyalZhipa was also screened.The day-long celebrations included various cultural programmes and games. The event concluded with a Tashi Lebey.

The Embassy sponsored the cost of travel and accommodation for the students.
