Notification on the increase of Passport Validity

The Lhengye Zhungtshog (Cabinet), Royal Government of Bhutan, at its 103rd session has approved the extension of validity of ordinary passport from 5 to 10 years. Accordingly, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Department of Protocol) will implement this change in validity of ordinary passport with effect from July 1, 2011.

Further, all passport holders, as per ICAO rules are to note that, the validity of passport of a minimum of six months is required for travel purposes. If the validity is less than six months, the concerned individual must process for a new passport as the current machine readable passports introduced since 2005 cannot be renewed.
