The 11th Annual Consultations between Bhutan and Japan on Economic Cooperation took place in New Delhi on 23 August 2016. Ambassador Kesang Wangdi, Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Bhutanese delegation comprising of officials from the Gross National Happiness Commission, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, Ministry of Agriculture and Forests, National Land Commission, Bhutan Telecom Limited, and the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, New Delhi. His Majesty the King has conferred the “Gyentag” to Bhutan’s two female ambassadors: Kunzang C. Namgyel, Permanent Representative of Bhutan to the United Nations in New York, concurrently accredited as Ambassador to Canada and Brazil; and Pema Choden, Bhutan’s resident Ambassador to Belgium and the European Union with concurrent accreditation to Sweden, the Netherlands, Denmark, Finland and Spain. The 24th Round of Bhutan – China Boundary Talks was held in Beijing on 11th August 2016. The talks were led by LyonpoDamchoDorji, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bhutan and Mr. Liu Zhenmin, Vice Foreign Minister of China.
During the talks, the two leaders held in-depth discussions on the boundary issue. They also exchanged views on bilateral relations and other matters of mutual interest. Read more

The Annual Performance Agreement (APA) between the Minister and the Secretary as well as between the Secretary and Heads of Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was signed on 5th August 2016 in a ceremony conducted at Gyalyong Tshokhang. The APAs are expected to help each Departments to work towards achieving goals identified by the Ministry for the fiscal year 2016-2017 in its Ministerial APA. Agreement between the Ministry and the Embassies and Missions abroad were also signed on the same day.
The new UNICEF Representative to Bhutan Mr. Rudolf Schwenk presented his credentials to the Hon’ble Foreign Minister, Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, at a ceremony conducted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Gyalyong Tshogkhang on 4 August 2016.
Mr. Schwenk holds a Masters Degree in Modern Middle East, Political Science and History, Berlin University, Germany. He has been part of the UN Systems since 1995 and has been assigned to work in Jordan and India. Most recently, Mr. Schwenk has been serving as the Chief of Procurement Services for UNICEF in Denmark. Read more
Additional Security Measures at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol
At the request of the Protocol Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kingdom of Netherlands, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bhutan would like to inform the general public that additional security measures have been taken at and around Amsterdam airport Schiphol in the interest of safety and security of passengers and employees. As per information received, these measures taken are consistent with the national threat level, which has been at “substantial” since 2013. Although some additional security measures will be visible and noticeable, and will lead to some delays, the leading principle is that travel to and from Schiphol Airport continues. Read more
